Garden of Wonder, Sustainable Building Museum, Parliamentary Triangle CanberraThe design for the building is defined by the five Classical elements, earth, fire, air, water and aether, the element which mediates between all the others. Each element has a different structural solution to fully express its individual qualities.
The earth building houses the café and has a roof garden on top. The fire building houses the gallery spaces and is constructed of a steel, rectangular truss system. The walls are laminated glass with structural glass fins at 2.5m intervals. The air building contains gallery spaces, between the interior columns are glass louvers, while the exterior columns support aluminium sliding screens, allowing for cross-ventilation to occur across the space.
