‘Texture’ consists of a multiplicity of projects in the Wentworth Park precinct.
The open brief called for a regeneration of the park and it’s urban condition. The existing infrastructures of the area are added to, with nothing removed or demolished. The process is seen as accumulative, and through a juxtaposition of programmes and event spaces the park is enlivened.
‘Texture’ is defined as the relationships between elements, which occur in both the urban and human context. It also involves the sensory characteristics perceived largely by the senses of movement and touch.
Reading the city as a narrative at changing scales, the project was explained in a series of scenes with each infrastructure playing the part of the protagonist of the scene.
Each scene consists of juxtaposing programmes. A Digital projection space is inserted on top of the operational Hanson Concrete factory. A bar is built over the existing Aquaduct monorail. Ballet theatres inserted into the back of the Greyhound Stadium. A cafe wall interacts with the ground of the park whilst the residential tower is added to respond at a larger scale to the whole city.
